Update
GEORGE NEWS - All hiking trails in the Outeniqua mountain are closed until further notice. This has been confirmed by CapeNature. The public is advised to stay away as the fires in the Outeniqua mountains and the Herold area are still active.
Chantel Edwards-Klose, spokesperson for the George Municipality, told the George Herald that a spotter plane was used to evaluate the situation, but no other aerial support has been used.
The fire is under control and poses no threat to George, infrastructure or any property. Preventative measures are in place.
The Outeniqua pass is open for traffic but the Montagu pass remains closed.
Motorists using the Outeniqua pass are cautioned to drive safely, reduce speed and take into consideration that fire-fighting teams are in the area.
