GEORGE NEWS - Members of National Treasury visited the George Municipality on Monday to perform a mid-year budget and performance assessment of the municipality.
This assessment directly impacts the municipality's budget adjustment preparation as prescribed by the Act.
This year the mid-year engagements focused on the review of the most recent audit outcomes, assessment of 2019/20 financial year performance as at mid-year, and budget preparation for the 2020/21 budget compilation.
Henry Mitchell, acting chief financial officer of George Municipality, said the meeting was positive and that his department now awaits the final mid-year assessment.
"The interim assessment indicates that the municipality is in a sound financial position and that George Municipality is one of the best managed municipalities in the country."
