GEORGE NEWS - A former Fidelity security guard, Johan Venter (31) from George, was convicted in the George Regional Court on 11 May for stealing cash from his employer. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment with an option of a R10 000 fine.
Venter stole a bag with R100 000 in November 2021.
“On 20 November 2021, the accused transported 107 bags containing cash from the Fidelity base to SBV* depot, but only 106 bags were booked in at the depot. Through internal investigation, Venter confessed that he took the money and took his manager to his personal vehicle where the money bag was found.
"It was discovered that he had already broken the seal of the bag and taken R2 230 from the bag containing R100 000,” said Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks in George.
Venter opted to pay the R10 000 fine and was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
