GEORGE NEWS - Drugs with an estimated street value of half a million rand were confiscated in a drug bust in Pacaltsdorp on Saturday 27 April. Police also seized cell phones and a large amount of cash.
Police yesterday (Wednesday 1 May) confirmed that the Western Cape Provincial Crime Investigations (narcotic unit) and Pacaltsdorp Detectives are investigating two cases of dealing in drugs.
Sgt Chris Spies, the police spokesperson, said information available at this stage indicates that 90 mandrax tablets were found after a vehicle was pulled over in Pacaltsdorp. Police arrested the three occupants. It is unclear if the drugs were found on one of the suspects or in the vehicle.
These arrests allegedly led police to a house in Rosedale where a further 7 500 mandrax tablets and 500g of Tik was confiscated. Two women who were in the house, were arrested.
The five suspects were scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday, 29 April.
Spies said the dockets were not enrolled due to outstanding investigation and the suspects were released. "Both cases are a subject of an ongoing police investigation," said Spies.
