GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route District Commissioner, Maj Gen Norman Modishana, together with the Western Cape provincial police management will officially launch the District Spiritual Crime Prevention Desk on Sunday 7 May in the George Civic Centre in York Street.
The desk, which is led by local religious leaders, aims to engage with stakeholders such as faith-based organisations, non-governmental organisations, youth structures, community safety structures as well as the broader community in an effort to prevent and combat crime through spiritual initiatives.
This project is built on five pillars:
- Maximising the participation of faith-based organisations in crime prevention
- Creating platforms to address moral decay in communities
- Intensifying moral and religious education
- Implementing integrated and focused moral regeneration programmes or projects in a co-ordinated manner that draws on the resources of all government agencies, including civil society
- Promoting community participation and youth initiatives in crime prevention activities
Everyone is invited to join the police and strategic stakeholders at this important event.
