GEORGE NEWS - A three-day dental marathon at George Hospital has brought relief to 159 patients in reducing waiting times for children requiring tooth extractions under general anaesthesia.
The initiative, held from 23 to 25 October, brought together hospital staff, the George Sub-district dental team, Gift of the Givers Foundation and volunteers.
"Teams worked tirelessly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, all in an effort to improve access to essential dental care for the children," said hospital CEO Tshepo Kau.
"This is the power of teamwork, compassion and collaboration in action. The dental outreach, supported by Gift of the Givers, represents far more than the provision of dental services. It is an investment in the dignity, health, confidence and future of our children in George. "
He said when care is brought closer to children who might otherwise struggle to access these services, it means that they do more than just address an immediate health need. Opportunities are created for them to learn, grow, smile and participate more fully in life.
"A heartfelt thank you to all our staff, volunteers and the Gift of the Givers Foundation for giving their time, skills and energy to make a real difference in the lives of our young patients."
