GEORGE NEWS - The local group of cyclists who are raising funds for Miles to Create Smiles started their 600km cycling tour from George to Cape Town in high spirits on Monday morning.
Their venture includes the Cape Town Cycle Tour this coming Sunday.
The group left from George South Primary School and are aiming to reach Cape Town on Friday 9 March so that they can rest on Saturday before mounting their bicycles again for the race on Sunday.
Professional golfer Hennie Otto Sr is leading the group that includes his son, Hennie Otto Jr.
Miles to Create Smiles raises money for a number of causes, namely the Living Ball Christian outreach, Stop Diabetes and Môreson Children's Home.
It also intends to support George South Primary learners who show sporting potential, but lack financial means to participate fully.
The organisation also wants to help cover the medical costs of Zeake Swart, a George South learner who is bravely fighting cancer.
The public can sponsor the kilometres the group will be cycling at R100 per kilometre.
