GEORGE NEWS - George police opened a house robbery docket for further investigation after two victims, in their sixties, were accosted at their residence in Stander Street, Loerie Park at about 04:30 this morning, Sunday 21 August.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the woman returned from outside when she found two men, one armed with a knife and the other a blunt object, in their home.
"The suspects assaulted the couple and forced them to their bedroom. They took an undisclosed amount of cash, two Samsung cell phones and an assortment of jewellery. The assailants fled the scene in the victims' vehicle which was later found abandoned near Pacaltsdorp."
Both victims sustained multiple injuries during the attack. They were transported to hospital for medical care.
"Investigation into this matter is at a very early stage. The suspects are still at large. George Detectives urge the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the assailants," said Spies.
