GEORGE NEWS - Last weekend the Carpe Musicam! Orchestra & Choir held an entertaining concert that took the audience through many different emotions, ranging from gentle to thrilling, followed again by sweet.
The show Movies, Musicals... & Magic!, which was held at the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre on Sunday 22 September, was filled to capacity with 200 people in attendance.
The more than 90 artists of Carpe Musicam!, young and old, soloists, choir and instrumentalists, performed movie musicals such as Beauty and the Beast, Bohemian Rhapsody, a Les Misérables medley and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The conductor, Norman Carless, kept the orchestra together, ensuring a balance between choir and orchestra. From the onset the audience was intrigued, listening intently to the sweet voices of the choir and the beauty of the melodies.

Carpe Musicam! manager Elsabe Barkhuizen says the ocherstra's main purpose is to provide a platform for young - and not so young - instrumentalists to perform in public and improve their music skills.
"The choir performs much the same purpose, but in the vocal sphere of endeavour. It is also becoming a development ground for young vocalists who may wish to move into the solo performance world," she said.
Their next performance will take place on 15 December at the Garden Route Botanical Garden.
