GEORGE NEWS - An argument between traffic officials and a taxi driver in George has led to a case of attempted murder being opened at George Police Station.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie said the incident happened on Friday 11 November between 07:00 and 07:20 in Cradock Street. The case is being investigated.
"Preliminary information reveals that the 53-year-old official and colleagues were busy regulating traffic when a taxi approached.
"The complainant tried to pull over the taxi when the taxi driver accelerated, straight onto the complainant and his colleague who attempted to bring him to a halt. The complainant tried to pull his colleague out of harm’s way, but the taxi hit her whilst the complainant managed to hang onto the wiper blades of the taxi until it came to a halt with the help of the occupants inside the taxi."
Pojie said the circumstances around the incident form part of the investigation and an arrest is imminent.
He did not confirm the rumour that the two officials had been admitted to hospital.
George Herald is awaiting feedback from the George Municipality's traffic department.
