GEORGE NEWS - Janine Ehlers will be the acting CEO of George Hospital as from 1 October until the recruitment process has been completed and the positioned formally filled.
Ehlers was appointed after the resignation of previous CEO Mike Vonk.
Ehlers' time as a manager at George Hospital spans several years, firstly in a capacity as manager of several wards including the day ward, family meds and psychiatry wards, as well as being the nursing manager for past four and a half years.
"Janine has been involved in virtually every aspect of hospital operations. Her commitment has been evident in her day-to-day work and her ability to handle difficult and complex decisions," said Vonk.
Ehlers said she is looking forward to acting in the new post. "Although changes in leadership can lead to uncertainty, I have full confidence in the executive and extended management teams to ensure a smooth transition. I am committed to guiding this process alongside the staff members of George Hospital."
Ehlers has been an integral part of George Hospital for many years, having started there as a professional nurse in 1995.
She is also the longest serving member of the management team. "Her deep understanding of the hospital's operations, but also the relationships she has developed, make her well placed to take on the role of acting CEO, ensuring stability for the hospital at a time of uncertainty," said Vonk.
"One of Janine's standout qualities is her ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with staff and stakeholders. Her collaborative approach always ensures that decisions are made with input from various departments, reflecting the collective expertise of our managerial structure. She has the full support of the hospital management and clinical leadership."
