GEORGE NEWS - After more than two months in jail, another two taxi drivers allegedly involved in the violent GO GEORGE protest on 19 August in George were released on bail on Monday.
Magistrate Gerald Mentoor set bail for each of the men, John Bambata and Sonele Khosi, at R10 000, which they paid in full before leaving the George Magistrate's Court.
They were arrested days after the protest with 11 other taxi drivers from Thembalethu, of whom Xolani Ngesi, Bongile Bolitye, Sinethemba Khunqwana, Zwelixolile Ngebulana, Khayalethu Nkqikiza and Someleze Nkawule were all denied bail last month and remain behind bars.
Magistrate Emma Moloro said the six men failed to produce enough evidence to separate them from the violence and if the accused are released on bail they might interfere with the investigation and intimidate the witnesses as they know where they live.
The five other suspects were released on bail of R1 000 each.
Yesterday all the men again appeared in court. No further information was known at the time of going to press.
