GEORGE NEWS - Life Community Services will host a training session in George on Wednesday 7 January on ‘Understanding Trauma’. It is aimed at equipping individuals, friends and organisational staff with practical tools to support healing from adversity.
The three-hour training will blend clinical insight with a biblical perspective, offering participants a deeper understanding of how trauma shapes emotions, thoughts, behaviour and relationships.
Attendees will learn to recognise common trauma responses and explore strategies people develop to survive adverse experiences. The session will also focus on trauma-informed care, emphasising compassion, safety, trust and healing within ministry and community contexts.
The training will take place at Shofar George, with registration and tea from 08:30, followed by the training session from 09:00 to 12:00.
The facilitator is Ana Barend, a licensed mental health counsellor from the United States. Barend holds an MA and is a Licensed mental health counsellor (LMHC) and National Certified Counsellor (NCC), as well as a PhD candidate.
Barend specialises in trauma healing and care and is passionate about equipping the Church and community leaders with practical, applicable knowledge.
The programme will conclude with simple, effective techniques to support emotional regulation and presence, enabling participants to serve others with greater discernment, confidence and grace.
The cost to attend is R100, payable at the door, or via EFT. People wishing to attend, are requested to RSVP via WhatsApp on 072 455 5605.
