GEORGE NEWS - Three children and two adults were admitted to the Mediclinic George intensive care unit yesterday after the Toyota Fortuner they were travelling in overturned on the R341 outside Uniondale.
A further two children, a 16 year-old-girl and 5-year-old boy, also occupants, were declared dead by emergency personnel on the scene. ER24 responded to the scene.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, the accident happened at about 12:20.
“Preliminary information available suggests that emergency services personnel responded to an accident after a Toyota Fortuner with eight occupants overturned. Upon arrival the police found the vehicle and seven occupants were taken to a hospital in Uniondale. Two of the occupants, children, who sustained multiple injuries were declared dead by medical personnel on arrival. One person, believed to be the driver, was airlifted to a hospital in George,” said Spies.
“The remaining victims were also later transferred to a medical facility in George for further medical treatment.”
A culpable homicide docket in connection with the death of the two children was opened.
Mediclinic George confirmed that three children and two adults were admitted to the hospital and all are being treated in the intensive care unit.
