GEORGE NEWS - The National Library of South Africa, in partnership with the Department of Correctional Services and George Municipality, will host the much-anticipated 15th Funda Mzantsi Championship at the Eden Place Hall in George from 6 to 9 October.
Now in its 15th year, the championship has grown into a flagship literacy initiative that unites community book clubs, correctional services book clubs, and university book clubs under one vision: cultivating a passion for reading, encouraging knowledge sharing, and supporting personal growth.
The programme plays a particularly important role in the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society.
This year’s theme, “Accelerating access to information for All,” reflects FMC’s commitment to inclusivity and the transformative power of reading.
More than 400 participants from across South Africa will compete in debating, impromptu reading, spelling bee, and book reviewing – all in the spirit of intellectual engagement.
For the first time since its inception, the Nama language will be included, making history and reinforcing the championship’s mission of promoting cultural diversity and multilingualism.
