GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The George Music Society presents acclaimed British cellist Michael Kevin Jones, who will perform at the DR Mother Church at 19:30 on Wednesday 8 October.
He will be accompanied by renowned pianist, conductor and composer Dr Sjoerd Alkema.
Audiences may look forward to an inspiring programme featuring works by JS Bach (Courante and Sarabande in D minor), Vivaldi's Sonata No. 5 in E minor, as well as pieces by Max Bruch and Beethoven.
Born in Watford, England, Jones studied at the Royal College of Music in London where he was chosen to perform for the Royal Family. He later received a German scholarship to study in Cologne and furthered his training at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
His career has taken him around the world as a solo cellist, recording artist and educator, earning him international acclaim and awards.
Alkema is equally distinguished, with a career spanning conducting, teaching, adjudicating and performance. He studied at the University of Cape Town and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he trained under the legendary Herbert von Karajan.
Since moving to Cape Town in 2008, he has combined teaching with his leadership roles in the South African music community.
