Rescue effort
According to preliminary reports, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Wilderness' duty crew were activated following reports from some NSRI lifeguards of a drowning in progress.
These lifeguards had been conducting pre-summer training when some eyewitnesses alerted them to a woman in distress in the shallow surf, swimming alongside a man who managed to exit the water safely.
The lifeguards, with the help of two unidentified surfers, recovered the woman from the water and immediately began CPR. Despite all efforts, the paramedics declared the woman dead.
