LIFESTYLE NEWS AND VIDEO - A Hartenbos woman has written an interactive guide for moms and their teenage daughters, so they can spend more time together and have a closer bond.
Until now a blogger, Crystal-Lee Young has taken what she feels to be a brave step in completing her first book, When I was your age.
Young said: "I wish my mom and I had had a better bond and had done more together." Young's book is a 13-week journey. There are 13 milestones and chapters. Young says it is a serious book, therefore she suggests a week at a time to work through each chapter.
She has two daughters aged nine and five. Her book is aimed at moms and their daughters, aged 13 or older. Young said of her book: "It makes me think of babies' milestones: when they got their first tooth; when they started walking.
"When a child becomes older you stop documenting these things, but you should not stop. Moms and daughters can do things together and remind themselves of the promises they made to one another."
Her book is written from a Christian perspective, Young notes.

Fascinated by words
She has loved writing since a young age and is fascinated by words. "It's intimidating to let people read your thoughts and emotions."
Her advice is: "Don't doubt yourself and your gifts. Do something irrespective of what people say and the circumstances."
A strong motivator for her to complete her book was that the friend with whom she had wanted to write it, was diagnosed with cancer and passed away.
This made Young even more determined to write it.
"The other part of the book is to motivate people to keep dreaming. If you have a gift, don't be afraid to go out there and use it. People are quick to judge. It takes a lot to record a song, paint something, publish something or record it." She said the public did not realise the bravery required.
"We have been given a gift for a reason."
