GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Western Cape Premier Helen Zille will be the keynote speaker at the Brenton Environmental Seminar hosted by the Southern Cape Landowners Initiative (SCLI)* on Thursday and Friday (23 and 24 November).
Eden Mayor Memory Booysen will deliver the welcoming address.
The seminar will focus on the rehabilitation of the landscape following the fires that swept the Garden Route in June, and kicks off at 08:30 on Thursday at the Brenton-on-Sea community hall.
The event is co-hosted by the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (Daff/ SCFPA), Eden District Municipality, Knysna Municipality and Nelson Mandela University's Sustainability Research Unit and a variety of experts will share their insights.
The seminar will also reflect on areas outside the Knysna burn scar, such as Stilbaai and Wilderness.
Field visit
The Brenton Corridor field visit on Friday to selected sites in the Knysna burn scar will include:
• an update on physical changes to the environment following spring rains;
• indicate the effect of environmental rehabilitation efforts;
• highlight concerns/threats; and provide interviews with environmental specialists, landowners and stakeholders.
