GEORGE NEWS - Youth Café is flaunting the spirit of support for art and Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday commemoration.
High schools in George were invited to a Nelson Mandela themed painting exhibition at Youth Café on Thursday 14 June.
The manager, Annique Arries, says the exhibition forms part of Youth Café's Arts in Public Spaces project and serves as a build-up towards Mandela Day which is internationally celebrated on 18 July.
According to Arries, only six talented painters from George High School were selected to display their paintings.
The six learners - Ashlynne Lakey, Hilton Crowley, Jonique Mooi, Uwer van Wyk, Batwanda Hlakiso and Shimone Baartman - worked under die guidance of Kevin van Niekerk.
The six canvasses will be distributed to the headmasters of six high schools in George on 17 July. As part of the Arts in Public Spaces project, Youth Café will also host a benefit concert in July.
Funds raised there will be donated to charity.
