Update
GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality is making an urgent appeal to all citizens to minimise water usage to absolute essentials only.
One of municipality's main water processing plants has been shut down as there is insufficient supply of raw water. The old water works is still operating.
Water is being pumped from Malgas pump station but the river is not running strongly and supply is insufficient to address normal water use.
Levels in the main storage reservoirs have dropped. Residents in high lying areas may start experiencing low water pressure.
There is currently supply to all areas.
Repairs to the raw water pipeline is going slowly due to access and some concrete work required.

If all goes according to plan, repairs will be completed in the next few hours.
However, it takes several hours for enough water to run into the system to restart the new water treatment works and then several hours to refill reservoirs to sufficient levels.
Water trucks are on standby should it become necessary.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation, support and understanding.
