GEORGE NEWS - George municipality has made an urgent request for all residents to please continue to use water for essentials only.
Overnight refilling, following the weekend’s raw water supply pipe burst, had gone well but early morning consumption and a major pipe burst on the eastern line have returned status to critical.
The pipe burst, probably caused by flash flooding, had severely depleted two 8Ml reservoirs and the line had to be closed to avoid more loss.
There is currently no supply to all eastern suburbs, George Suid and CBD, which by now will have no water.
Thembalethu, Rosedale and a part of Pacaltsdorp will also be affected.
The pipe burst, situated near the N2, is being handled by an outside contractor. Repairs may take several hours and refilling will take several more because of the long distance from supply to breaking point.
Reservoirs in other areas of the city will have not yet filled up sufficiently due to the weekend’s pipe burst and related processing issues. Therefore, it is essential that all citizens continue to use water for essentials only.
Details of water trucks will be issued in due course.
