GEORGE NEWS - Pacaltsdorp Police opened a case of business robbery for further investigation following a robbery at gunpoint at the Pacaltsdorp post office early yesterday morning, Monday 2 November.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the post office was open at about 08:30 when a security company delivered an undisclosed amount of cash destined for allpay allowances. After the handing over of the money, an unknown suspect entered the premises and held the security guard at gunpoint.
"He disarmed the two security officers, one working as a guard at the post office and the other one who delivered the cash. He then fled on foot with the bags filled with money as well as the firearms,” said Pojie.
“The suspects then allegedly hijacked a Toyota Corolla in the parking area of the nearby clinic, from where they drove to Fountain Street where they got into a Toyota Tazz which they used as their getaway car.
“They left the Corolla behind and drove in the direction of Beach Road, where they collided with an Opel vehicle and also discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver, barely missing him. Later members found the Toyota Tazz abandoned in Rebecca street in Eden Park, Pacaltsdorp. The suspects are still at large,” Pojie said.
Forensic and specialised units were dispatched shortly after 08:30 yesterday morning to the scene at the post office to assist the police.
A case of business robbery, two of armed robbery, one of hijacking and a case of attempted murder are being investigated by the Pacaltsdorp police.
