GEORGE NEWS - A long-time U3A member and man of many interests, Hugo Leggatt, will deliver a two-lecture series dealing with the emergence of humans over the last 6-million years on the continent of Africa, entitled Human Origins.
In the first lecture he will look at the evidence for the appearance of bipedal (two-legged) walking and the development of Australopithecus and early Homo. It will take place at Emmaüs on Thursday 6 September, starting at 10:30. This promises to be a very interesting series, so don't miss this first part.
On Tuesday 11 September in Armchair Travel, Geoff Sturges will take time off from his committee duties as U3A's IT manager, website creator and newsletter compiler to take his audience on a trip to Turkey.
This is a country with a long history dating from Biblical times. Parts of what is now modern Turkey were occupied by the Greeks and the Romans and later on became part of the Ottoman Empire.
It had a thriving tourist industry and Geoff will look at the changes that have occurred under the watch of President Erdogan. So, come along and enjoy a trip to this fascinating and exotic country.
The fee for both lectures is R5 for members and R10 for visitors.
