She took over the reins from Barbara Haywood who was president during 2011/2012.
In her valedictory speech, Haywood highlighted some of the many successful projects that the Eden Lions had undertaken during her presidential year. With their signature yellow shirts, the Eden Lions have become a well-recognised beacon of hope to those in need.
Their efforts to eradicate hunger through projects such as the Tip a Ton Food Collection and the Feed Me Campaign have come to the attention of Lions Clubs around the world. The Eden Lions hope that this international support will give these projects the backing needed to provide ongoing food relief to communities in and around South Africa.
After her induction, Nel gave her undertaking to lead the Eden Lions to even greater heights during her year as president. She introduced her team of directors who will be responsible for various portfolios to ensure that all service and fundraising projects are managed efficiently.
