GEORGE NEWS - "As we all know, the price of food and prices are skyrocketing, and for any business in the world to survive, you need to make a profit."
This was the explanation given by Uncedo Service Taxi Association when it announced the taxi fare increase for local and long-distance trips to be implemented on Monday 25 July.
The new taxi fares from Thembalethu are as follows:
- to town - R15,
- to Blanco - R18,
- to Wilderness - R19,
- to Oubaai - R25,
- to Kingswood R19
- and around Thembalethu - R10.
According to Charles Dikeni of the Ward 21 committee, taxis will now drop their passengers off inside Silver Town and other remote areas in Thembalethu.
"Commuters have had to walk long distances to get home for years as taxis did not do drop-offs in the above-mentioned areas," said Dikeni.
