GEORGE NEWS - Police has opened an attempted murder case after a taxi driver drove into two traffic officials when one of them tried to pull the taxi over in Cradock Street.
Both officials were transported to hospital by ER24 where they received medical care. They were released later the same day.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie confirmed an attempted murder case was opened for further investigation.
The incident happened on Friday 11 November between 07:00 and 07:20.
"Preliminary information reveals that the 53-year-old official and colleagues were busy regulating traffic when a taxi approached. The complainant tried to pull over the taxi when the taxi driver accelerated, straight onto the complainant and his colleague who attempted to bring him to a halt.
"The complainant tried to pull his colleague out of harm's way, but the taxi hit her while the complainant managed to hang onto the wiper blades of the taxi until it came to a halt with the help of the occupants inside the taxi."
Pojie said an arrest is imminent.
George Municipality's traffic department said the traffic officials were attending to a complaint from the public with regard to taxi operators disobeying road rules at the time of the incident.
