GEORGE NEWS - The police are looking for two suspects after an attempted house robbery on Wednesday morning, 6 February, in the Glen Barrie, Heatherlands area.
According to George police communications officer, Captain Nolonwabu Tshengu, two men fled the scene in Arbour Road after breaking in and assaulting the owner, Hans van Ginkel (55), inside his house.
"The suspects, who were armed with knives, were wearing hoodie tops and balaclavas when they entered the house at approximately 07:20. They gained access through a partially open sliding door while the victim was sleeping. The victim was alerted by his barking dog after which he found the two suspects inside his house," she said.
A confrontation ensued and Van Ginkel defended himself against his attackers. Bricks were thrown at him and he sustained a cut on his right foot while he was fighting back with a chair. The suspects fled the scene empty-handed and on foot.
In a Facebook post Van Ginkel commended the George police and the local neighbourhood watch on their reaction time and the support they offered him after the ordeal.
A case of attempted robbery has been opened with the George police.
