GEORGE NEWS - Endeavours to create safer communities yielded positive results when police confiscated liquor and drugs during various Safer Festive Season operations that were conducted in and around crime hotspots in the Southern Cape over the past weekend.
Vigilant members attached to the Pacaltsdorp Crime Prevention Unit descended on a house at Klokkiesblom Street, Pacaltsdorp on Friday 20 November.
A search of the premises ensued when the members found 401 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R20 000. The police arrested a 39-year-old woman on charges of dealing in drugs.
This operation proceeded to another house in the same street where 17 grams of Tik with an estimated street value of R3 000 and small amounts of Mandrax were confiscated. A-19-year old woman was arrested. She is facing a charge of possession of drugs.
Liquor abuse
Furthermore, efforts to eradicate liquor abuse resulted in the arrest of three suspects when sting operations were conducted in Rosedale, Pacaltsdorp and Uniondale on Friday evening. The police also confiscated a substantial amount of liquor, fridges and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Meanwhile, George Crime Prevention Unit members also seized 1024 litres of liquor at an unlicensed premises at Wilderness during a liquor related operation at the premises. The suspect in this matter is yet to be arrested.
Last night, the vigilant members attached to the Pacaltsdorp Crime Prevention Unit continued with their relentless efforts against unlicensed liquor premises when they conducted another sting operation at New Dawn Park, Pacaltsdorp where they confiscated 107 litres of liquor. A fridge was also seized. A 61-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of selling liquor without a liquor licence.
In an unrelated matter, the police arrested a 23-year-old woman and closed a liquor licenced premises at Voortrekker Street, Uniondale after the premises operated in contravention of the Disaster Management Regulations. The police seized a sound system and DJ equipment during this arrest.
These suspects will appear in court when charged.
