GEORGE NEWS - Since launching the project to fund Sea Rescue lifeguards on the Wilderness beaches in February 2021, our lifeguards have been on duty every weekend to establish safe swimming beaches at Wilderness Main Beach and Leentjiesklip, but also patrol the full stretch of coast up to Views Hotel & Spa using our custom designed All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).
Signage is used to warn people of dangers of rip currents at as these develop at different locations throughout the day. Our beaches have been busier than normal and we’ve had no drowning incidents since our lifeguards have been on duty.
The project is truly an initiative by the community for the community. With Lifeguards on duty, visitors are attracted to enjoy the safe Wilderness beaches, bringing much needed stimulus to the local economy.
There are also marketing opportunity for donors through direct recognition in local media and association with NSRI brand or they can qualify for deductions from taxable income.
We are fortunate to have a number of sponsors come forward and are grateful for Oakhurst Farm Cottages, Garden Route Game Lodge, Glenwood House School Parents Association and an anonymous donor for their generous donations.
Do something amazing this weekend and help save a life. It costs just R1350 to place lifeguards on the beach for a day or R2 700 for the weekend. Every rand counts and even the lifeguards have volunteered a third of their time.
