GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Members of various neighbourhood watches in George, security personnel and local police took to the streets on Friday evening, 16 July, in a show of force aimed at fighting crime and warning potential criminals.
More than 50 vehicles with approximately 120 people took part in the mass patrol from 19:00 until 21:00.
“The plan was to showcase the force George is capable of – and this was reached with great success. Many people came out of their homes to greet and cheer, while others were running for cover. We definitely made an impact,” says George Community Police Forum (CPF) chairman, Rupert Pretorius.
After the mass patrol, normal patrols continued with various vehicle checkpoints in certain hotspots.
Fines were issued for breaking the curfew regulations while police and neighbourhood watch members cleared areas of unwanted and suspicious people.
