GEORGE NEWS - Spraying of the Kariba weed along the Kat River where it enters the Garden Route Dam started this morning (Friday 15 January).
George Municipality appointed a contractor earlier this week.
The weed has formed a thick carpet on the water surface along a long stretch of the river from the Eden sewer pump station and into the dam. According to the contractor, it will take about three weeks to get the job done.
About four weeks after being sprayed, the Kariba weed will start to turn brown.
A biological control agent has also been ordered to aid in the effort to eradicate the weed.
