GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Ballot's Bay Manager Warren Lubbe is warning swimmers and surfers about a thick sewage sludge coming down the Meulen River and into the ocean.
"The sludge is only about 300 metres from the surf break at Vic Bay and I'm concerned that the ocean current will take it into Vic Bay where people are surfing and swimming."
He says spills in the river have happened before, but not on this scale. He reported it on the municipal app, but has not had any response.
George Municipality Communications Chief, Chantel Edwards-Klose said she has reported it to the civil engineering department that will investigate it immediately. She said the complaint came through at 16:10 and it was responded to by 16:17.
