GEORGE NEWS - Two men (42) from Parkdene were arrested late last night, Monday 3 July, on charges of possession of stolen goods after a laptop and two cellphones stolen during a home robbery on a farm near the old Saasveld road (Madiba Drive) on Sunday were found in their possession.
They will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court as soon as they have been charged.
Ruan Hechter (37) was shot in his face during the robbery and died on the scene.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie said the hunt for the murderers continues.
Pojie said preliminary investigation suggests that two unknown men, one armed with a firearm and a knife, accosted the deceased’s wife in her room and asked who else was in the house. Both suspects wore balaclavas.
“They also ransacked the room of the couple’s elderly parents (aged 72 and 61). Meanwhile the deceased entered the room and a scuffle ensued with the armed suspect. A shot went off and the deceased was hit in the face. He was declared dead on the scene.”
The suspects fled the scene with a Lenovo laptop, a maroon bag and two cellphones.
Anyone with information relating to the murder or the whereabouts of the perpetrators is asked to contact the George Detectives on 044 803 4715 of Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
