GEORGE NEWS - Repairs at the George Civic Centre will be addressed in the next quarter and quotations for repair work to the seating have been requested.
So said municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose, following questions on the derelict state of the town hall.
Edwards-Klose said the Department of Corporate Services is aware of concerns expressed by a school prior to an event held at the Civic Centre, and would like it noted that repairs were made to the toilet facilities on the same day and the event was subsequently successfully held in May.
"A comprehensive maintenance plan is adhered to annually for repairs at the 15 halls owned by the George Municipality. The maintenance team has for the past few months focused on halls in other areas and the department will address repairs at the Civic Centre in the next quarter."
In this financial year the exterior of the Civic Centre has been painted. Future maintenance projects include the repair of the roof, upgrading of the air conditioning system and the installation of curtains and blinds in the banquet hall. Edwards-Klose said such large repairs fall under Capital Projects and need to be specifically budgeted for.
"Ongoing maintenance which is handled on a daily basis includes electrical issues and painting. Unfortunately it must also be noted that a number of the maintenance issues are created by deliberate vandalism to municipal property."
