Lindoor and his collegue were on patrol when they stopped on the corner of 34th Street in Zone 7 after noticing a suspicious looking man. Lindoor got out of the police van and walked towards the suspect, who had already pulled out a gun.
The man shot Lindoor and ran away.
Lindoor’s colleague jumped out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the fleeing suspect.
Captain Malcolm Pojie, Southern Cape Police spokesperson, this morning said they have very little information about the shooter and could not say if the man, described as a black male wearing a hoody, was wounded.
Pojie said Lindoor’s parents and family from the Eastern Cape arrived in George this morning. “Top management, including the cluster commander Major-General Oswald Reddy, Brigadier Phindelwa Mavakala (George Police Station Commander) and the duty officers, have already visited Lindoor at the hospital. He is in ICU at George Hospital. We will support the Lindoor family during this difficult time.”
Major-General Oswald Reddy said this incident will not deter the police from normal police duties in the Thembalethu area. “In fact, we will intensify the deployment of officers and see to it that we don’t stop until the suspect has been brought to book.
Furthermore, this kind of act will not be tolerated and that is why we will go the full lenght of the law to attain a positive outcome in terms of the arrest of the suspect as well as his prosecution.”
