GEORGE NEWS & VIDEOS - The house of the Plattners, owners of Fancourt, on their farm in the Geelhoutboom area has been damaged in a fire this evening, 18 March.
Leroy Ferreira, Fancourt's head of communications, said the Plattners are not available for comment, but they can confirm that damage was caused due to a fire. "The extent of the damage or the cause of the fire is not yet known," said Ferreira.
Eye witnesses say smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the house from about 17:00.
According to Mokke Branard, who was visiting a neighbouring farmer, Jan Stander, the George Fire Brigade arrived shortly afterwards at about 17:30 and efforts to quench the fire began, however, it got progressively worse.
The fire brigade chief, Neels Barnard, confirmed that he is on the scene, but is currently not able to provide comment.
