GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality is in the process of addressing the state of public parking areas in the town centre, starting along York Street.
This is according to municipal communications officer Debra Sauer, who reacted to a complaint from Gloria van Vorstenbosch, an irate reader who commented on the George Herald website about the "shocking" state of some parking areas in York Street.
Van Vorstenbosch said as York Street is one of the two main thoroughfares through town, "re-tarring of a number of parking areas should have been a priority a long time ago".
Sauer replied that the Civil Engineering Department has a budget for the repair and resealing of the parking area in front of FNB and the post office in York Street. Construction was set to start on 5 March, but was delayed as the upgrade of Beach Road, Pacaltsdorp, takes priority.
"The parking area will still be done in this financial year - somewhere between now and June. The directorate will also try to prioritise the upgrade of another parking area in the next financial year, but it is subject to budget approval," she said.
