GEORGE NEWS - Officials of the George Municipality's cleansing department and environmental educators from the Garden Route District Municipality spent the whole morning last Friday, 13 November, cleaning up an area between Genesis Street in Rosedale and the N2 as part of an ongoing awareness campaign for illegal dumping.
The department provided everyone with gloves, face masks and sanitiser.
Following complaints of illegal dumping along the N2, the team decided to host a clean-up campaign and at the same time create awareness of the reasons why people should not dump in their neighbourhoods.
The environmental educators moved between the homes to educate locals about illegal dumping and the dangers surrounding it.
The team plans a continuation of their efforts further along the N2. Members of the public who want to assist in such a project can contact the following officials at George Municipality: Ethan Stoffels or Karin Stoffels on 044 802 2900 (office hours).
Officials finishing off cleaning the dumpsite with the help of a JCB. The area looked much better after the clean-up.
The area between Genesis Street in Rosedale and the N2, covered in litter.
