GEORGE NEWS - Police in Thembalethu are on a manhunt for four suspects after a business robbery in Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Thembalethu on Thursday 13 July.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, preliminary investigation reveals that five men, of who at least two were carrying firearms, entered the shop at about 18:00.
“They threatened the shopkeeper and demanded cash. A scuffle ensued when the men forced another occupant to the floor where they assaulted him. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene,” said Spies.
Police responded to the scene and a shoot-out ensued. One of the men was cornered and arrested on the scene. An amount of cash was recovered on the scene while police also confiscated an imitation firearm.
The 39-year-old suspect will appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court later today, Monday 17 July.
