GEORGE NEWS - Those who have already received SMSs from the Department of Traffic Services in George to collect their driver's licence cards issued during 2020 and 2021, must collect these cards as soon as possible. If not, they will be destroyed by 28 February.
The Department of Traffic Services will make a last attempt to get these people to collect their driver's licence cards by sending a final SMS.
Storage challenge
The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works announced the measures being taken after it was inundated with requests from DLTCs about uncollected driver's licence cards and the challenge the local municipal offices are experiencing with storage space, especially cards that were produced early in 2020 and 2021.
George Traffic Services started this process last year already by sending clients reminder SMSs and even arranged Saturday times to pick up cards.
George Traffic Services, in adhering to a departmental circular, has already started sending out SMSs informing applicants to collect their driver's licence cards. This will be the last notice to applicants to collect cards that were issued in 2020 or 2021.
According to Traffic Services, applicants have already received at least three SMSs to notify them of collection. After 60 days of application, it remains the responsibility of the applicant to inquire about the status of their application, as stated on the back of their receipt. All applicants should adhere to the instructions at the back of the receipt.
Collection times are from 09:00 to 15:00 in Mission Street, Pacaltsdorp.
A driver's licence card must be collected by the applicant. If not possible, the applicant must provide an affidavit for someone else to collect it. For more information please contact the office on 044 878 2400.
