GEORGE NEWS - Chief Fire Officer and Emergency Services for George, Neels Barnard closed Gwaiing beach for swimming today, Tuesday 7 December, due to large pieces of debris in the river mouth after yesterday's heavy rainfall.
He said there are lifeguards stationed at the beach but no swimming will be allowed at this stage due to safety concerns.
Barnard said the area is very dangerous for swimming at this stage as the water is very dark and the mouth is three meters deep at some points.
