GEORGE NEWS - Sadley for visitors to the Garden Route the world famous Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe is still not running and seems to have been put out to pasture for good.
The Choo-Tjoe stopped chugging between Knysna and George after severe floods in 2006 damaged the railway line and about two years ago Transnet also stopped the trip between George and Mossel Bay.
Western Cape Minister of Tourism, Allen Winde tried several times to negotiate with Transnet to get the steam train back on track, but due to the high expenses involved the train is still standing still.
But, there is good news for visitors to the Garden Route: the Outeniqua Power Van is well and truly on track.
It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Garden Route and guests are taken up the Outeniqua Mountains to enjoy panoramic vistas from the comfort of a railway coach.
The Outeniqua Transport Museum serves as the departure and arrival point.
