GEORGE NEWS - Thirteen staff members at the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) George Campus were acknowledged for long service ranging from 5 to 30 years at the staff year-end event on Thursday 6 December. In addition to the long service awards, certificates were also presented to a number of support staff who had recently completed a variety of short learning programmes.
This is in line with the university's endeavours to encourage and reward a culture of service excellence and continuous learning.
The acting campus principal, David Alexander, thanked staff for their endeavours to live up to the value system of the man the university was named after, Nelson Mandela, and especially for embracing the commitment to education as "the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".
Staff teams and individual staff members who had been innovative in visually depicting the theme of the year-end event, "Bring out the Madiba in you!" were also acknowledged and rewarded with a small item bearing the university's logo.
