GEORGE NEWS - The launch of a new indoor family entertainment venue has seen the first stage, the Firefighter's Bar, completed and opened.
According to Carl van Blerk, managing director of Omnia Entertainment in Courtenay Street, the bar should be seen as a commemorative site for the heroes who served our community in the face of overwhelming odds, especially over the past two years.
"Our firefighters may not see themselves as heroes, but to us, the ordinary public, they are no less," says Van Blerk.
The bar will not only depict the stories of the 2017 Knysna/Plett fires and the 2018 George fires, but will continue to accumulate interesting and significant items related to firefighting.
A memorial wall in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice will remind us of the extreme dangers these men and women run towards, while we run away, and ensure that we don't forget those who died in the fires.
According to Van Blerk the entire complex is being revamped, with an arcade centre and the Garden Route's very first permanent 126m² synthetic ice rink, which will be installed in the near future.
