GEORGE NEWS - No traffic circle is to be built near the former Destiny Africa property on the N2, but a few Georgians might have been caught out by a tongue-in-the-cheek post on the Georgiete Staan Saam Facebook page asking for input on a "modern" traffic circle being planned in that location.
A certain SP Dreyer posted a photo of a large traffic circle, surrounded by various roadways meandering through a number of traffic islands and smaller circles to guide the traffic. It was a definite hint at some George drivers' clumsiness in negotiating traffic circles.
The post elicited more than 300 comments, some of which expressed serious doubt at subjecting Georgians to such an intricate intersection.
Randall Cable, regional manager for the South African National Roads Agency Ltd (Sanral), duly confirmed that it was fake news.
Herman Pienaar of Love George, the founder of Georgiete Staan Saam, chuckled at the Facebooker's attempt at stirring up a bit of controversy. The post has been removed.
George Herald was not able to contact Dreyer through Facebook.
