GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality has addressed an illegal dumping area between Nompumelolo Crèche and Lihle Small Kids in Qhawe Street, Zone 9.
This action was taken after Idinga visited the area and informed the municipality of the ditch that contained rubbish bags and other rubbish.
The place also had a bad smell.
George municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose confirmed that the issue has been addressed.
Idinga also spoke with owners of the crèches, who said the rubbish hole is not hygienic and poses a health threat for the little children who attend crèches in this street.
It also came to Indinga's attention that there are no zebra crossings, speed humps, or any warning signs to inform drivers that they must be aware of children in Qhawe Street.
Responding to this issue, Edward-Klose said, "The Civil Engineering Department has reviewed the area and will erect the required signage (warning and pedestrian crossing ahead) and pedestrian block crossings in accordance with the South African Road Traffic Signs manual."
She urged the public to directly contact the cleansing department on 044 802 2900 to address illegal dumping problems.
Two weeks ago, the illegal dumping site between two crèches was still a heaven for scavening dogs.
