GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - MM Mateza Primary School in Thembalethu celebrated World Teachers' Day at the Wilderness Beach Hotel on Friday 12 November.
This day is annually celebrated on 5 October, but due to the school holidays, MM Mateza decided to postpone celebrations for a couple of weeks.
"We have faced many challenges at the school, but by God's grace we overcame and emerged through collaboration, good human relations and good working relations among ourselves. Despite all challenges, we stood our ground in giving our learners quality education and served them to the best of our ability," said the headmaster, Mgcineni Makasi.
Makasi is also very proud of the fact that, amidst the challenges that came with Covid-19, teachers sacrificed their time and resources to ensure their learners are taught, safe and fed through a nutrition programme.
"Despite the trauma teachers faced during times of community commotions, they were always putting the best interests of our learners first.
"That is why it was imperative that this day is celebrated in order to keep the teachers motivated, inspired, empowered to carry on with their duties," he said.
