WILDERNESS NEWS - Police are looking for a coloured male suspect in his early 20s after a housebreaking and attempted robbery at a house in Heights Road, Wilderness, earlier today, Tuesday 23 March.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a black beanie, a blue denim, blue long-sleeved shirt and a mask at the time of the incident.
According to George police communications officer, Capt Nolonwabo Tshengu, a woman (25) was sleeping in her bedroom when she was allegedly woken up by the suspect who gained access by forcing open a door.
“The suspect is believed to have been armed with a braai fork," she said. He demanded food, money and a cellphone and then tied the victim's hands with an extension cord and her feet with a jersey. When her parents arrived home, the suspect fled on foot. He later came back and allegedly assaulted the victim’s mother with a tripod. She sustained minor injuries. They managed to chase the suspect away without him taking anything.
A case of house robbery has been opened at the George police station and anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspect is asked to contact Warrant Officer Jerome Malan on 044 803 4414/5.
