GEORGE NEWS - One of the suspects who was arrested in connection with a brutal murder in Thembalethu over the weekend, has been released as police do not have sufficient evidence to hold her in custody.
This comes after a mother (44) and her son (25) were arrested shortly after a man was killed in Phelandaba, Zone 5 on Saturday evening, 28 August.
The duo were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday 31 August, but according to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the court date of the remaining suspect was moved to Wednesday following some late developments on Monday afternoon.
By the time of going to print no information had been received about the court appearance.
The 25-year-old suspect faces a charge of murder after police was contacted about the incident and discovered the body of Bonga Menzi (40) who had been brutally attacked.
According to Pojie, witnesses to the horrific attack called the Thembalethu police at approximately 20:00 and members were immediately dispatched to the residence in Zone 5 where the incident happened.
On arrival police were met by a horrendous scene. The deceased had extensive injuries to his head.
"Members also found bricks, a dustbin, wood pieces and a wheel spanner on the scene that were confiscated as evidence," said Pojie.
It is alleged that the suspect and deceased had an argument whereafter the mentioned items were used to fatally assault him. "Upon arrival, members found the deceased who had already succumbed to multiple injuries, with his head smashed," said Pojie.
